The story
The documentary “Land of Fire” recounts the harrowing experiences of Đino, Foška, and Egidio, survivors of Nazi atrocities in Istria during WWII. Through personal testimonies and expert insights, the film vividly portrays the horrors faced by these individuals and their communities. It highlights the brutal events in villages like Šajini, Bokordići, and the Lipa massacre, where families were torn apart and villages destroyed. The film also features staged reenactments, bringing to life the struggle for survival and moments of unexpected humanity, such as Egidio Salvatori’s story of assuming a false identity to protect a family. “Land of Fire” underscores the enduring trauma of war and the importance of remembering history to prevent future atrocities.
